You know those days where you want to look like you tried but you also really don’t want to try all that much? Yeah, well I have a little formula to pull me through those mornings, and this outfit is my perfect example of one of those situations recently. The formula itself looks a little something like this:

Easy Base + Outerwear + Bag + Shoes + Accessories = Killer Minimal-Effort-Needed Outfit

So this seems super obvious so far – but when I’m bleary-eyed at 6am an staring at my closet like it’s a foreign concept, having it at the forefront of my mind helps a ton! I also find that sorting my wardrobe into these sections helps so much as I can go along each bit in order and decide which bits to pick up.

The Easy Base

In my wardrobe I have a few of ‘easy base’ items for these days, usually (for me):

  • Black dresses
  • Simple skinny jeans
  • Band tees
  • Sweaters

This dress is my go-to base at the moment – it’s so good to just throw on with a pair of tights and boots as it’s simple, but not too plain. Black velvet is always a major selling point for me, but I adore the tiered a-line shape of this dress as it’s perfect for the days where you’re not feeling 100% confident about how you look (or if you’ve eaten way too much and have a bit of  a food baby situation, haha.)

Outerwear, Bags and Shoes

These are the ‘necessities’ of the formula – just pick for the most weather/activity appropriate items here because there’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable!
This coat is a staple for me right now – it’s another black coat, but it has so many amazing textured crammed into one beautiful garment! It’s all handcrafted by the wonderful Lucinda here in London, and it is all faux fur and vegan leather & suede which is great, especially as it feels so luxurious.

Accessories

So these are the ‘added extras’ of the look, and depending on your style you will want to add more or less of each thing. I generally do this right at the end of getting ready to finish the looks, and add 3-4 of the below categories!

  • Hats/Hairpieces
  • Necklaces
  • Harnesses
  • Rings
  • Belts
  • Bracelets/Anklets etc.

Here I took 4 categories (though honestly I always have rings on so maybe I should stop counting them, aha!). I find that while not totally necessary these little bits elevate the look, e.g. cinching in the waist with a belt or adding a floral headband. It’s nice to add in something a little different too, like a harness or this leg chain – it seems fancy as it’s not a ‘typical’ accessory, but really it’s just a little leg-bracelet that was no extra effort!

So there we have it – my set way of throwing an outfit together in minimal time. I’m unsure how helpful/interesting this would be to you guys, but if anyone finds it to be useful then I’d be over the moon! But please do let me know and I’ll gladly start doing more posts like this 🙂

Take care you wonderful lot, I hope you are keeping well and have had a fantastic week! until next time, love xxx

Love this post, Olivia! I guess even (or especially?) people who are very into fashion and own a whole lot of clothes know this situation all too well. Some mornings I’ll just stand in my wardrobe for minutes staring at nothing as if it was the first time in my life I had to get dressed 😀 I always find it incredibly helpful to have some kind of anchor or starting point to work with. Therefore thumbs up for outfit-formula-look-as-if-you-made-an-effort-without-actually-making-an-effort posts!

Love this. Textures all the way. Your hair colour and skin tone work really well with the black. Thumbs up 🙂 http://www.bragvintage.co.uk
